The Mustangs opened their season Tuesday night at Hartman Park against Liberty.
Liberty jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but Redmond responded when junior Dillon Hartman drove in senior Austin Paul for the Mustangs first run. A double by senior Aaron Beltran brought senior Kai Drotz around to score and tie the game at 2-2.
Senior Cole Uyematsu took over on the mound for the Stangs in the second inning trailing 3-2 and shut down Liberty’s scoring. He allowed just one unearned run and struck out 5 over the next 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory.
The long ball drove the scoring for the rest of the evening. In just his second Varsity at-bat, Hartman’s 4th inning solo home run closed the gap, 4-3. In the 5th Austin Paul provided the offense the Stangs needed when his Grand Slam plated Ethan Tung, Liam Curran and Andrew McBain to put Redmond up 7-4.
Hartman pitched a scoreless 7th to earn the save.
Redmond looks to build on their success when they travel to Magnuson Park to face Roosevelt on Thursday at 3:30.
