Redmond travelled to Woodinville Tuesday night and a combination of strong pitching, solid defense and timely hitting led to a Mustang victory over a tough Woodinville squad.
Redmond got on the board in the second when walks to Dillon Hartman and Aaron Beltran followed by a single from Jon Holmen loaded the bases. Josh Roof grounded into a double play but Hartman scored on the play to put the Mustangs up 1-0.
Redmond started the third with a walk to Seamus Brown and a single by Holden Furutani. Pinch runner Andrew McBain and Furutani then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. A line drive to left field by Austin Paul plated McBain and Furutani to push the lead to 3-0.
Senior Cole Uyematsu started on the mound for the Stangs and his command kept the Falcons hitters off balance Monday night. Uyematsu worked through a strong Woodinville lineup and struck out 5 batters and allowed 5 hits while holding the Falcons scoreless through 5 innings of work. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by shortstop Austin Paul, second basemen Holden Furutani and right fielder Ethan Tung.
Junior Jon Holmen led off the 6th with a single to left field. Smart baserunning by Holmen on a swinging bunt by Josh Roof saw him advance from first to third and a wild throw allowed him to score on the play that put the Stangs up 4-0. A single by Ethan Tung follow by another Furutani hit capped the Redmond scoring and made it 5-0.
Junior reliever Cameron Bradford took the mound in the bottom of the 6th. He struck out 3 and didn’t allow a baserunner in 2 innings of work to preserve the shutout and earn the save.
Redmond hosts Newport Wednesday night at 6:00 at Hartman Park.
