Although our Varsity Mustangs fought hard, they couldn’t recover from the early deficit in a 6-0 loss to the Newport Knights on Tuesday. Newport scored early on a double, a single and a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Unfortunately, the Mustangs struggled to find an answer to Newport’s pitching and could not gain momentum offensively throughout the game.
Mustang highlights from the game: #6 Chase Lawson, #8 Andrew McBain, and #9 Brandon Dayberry each collected one hit for the Mustangs. In addition, the Mustangs didn’t commit a single error in the field. #2 Dillon Hartman had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
#23 Josh Roof led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Mustangs. The righthander lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out four and walking one. #4 Zach Gunn threw two innings in relief allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out one.
The Mustangs will regroup, recharge and prep for their home game against Mount Si on Wednesday, 3/22, at 6:00pm.
