Our Mustangs claimed a most-satisfying 9-5 victory on their last homestand for their 2023 season and on the last home-game as a Mustang for the Seniors. All the Seniors’ family members were there on Senior Night to cheer on their favorite Mustang.
The Mustangs got things moving in the second inning and scored one run when #2 Dillon Hartman doubled. After #6 Chase Lawson singled, #9 Brandon Dayberry drove in Hartman with a single. #3 Jon Holmen drove in Lawson for another run with a single. In the fourth inning, #15 Mathias Gendzwill drove in Lawson for an RBI while also scoring on a double-steal with #17 Cavin Bowmer. The highlight for this Senior Night game was Hartman’s fifth inning, 2-run dinger to right-center field. The Vikings fought back with five runs in the sixth inning with a series of infield ground balls that were just enough out of reach for the Mustangs to make a play. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mustangs gained some insurance when #8 Andrew McBain hit a hard ground ball up the middle scoring both Gendzwill and Bowmer, thereby, sealing the fate of the Vikings.
#7 Cameron Bradford earned the win for the Mustangs. Bradford allowed seven hits and five runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three. #23 Josh Roof and #4 Zach Gunn entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief each allowing only one hit. Roof recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs tallied 12 hits. Lawson, Hartman, and Bowmer all collected multiple hits for the Mustangs. Lawson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mustangs in hits. The Mustangs stole seven bases during the game with Roof and Gendzwill stealing two each.
