Your Redmond Mustangs snatched the lead late in their 4-3 victory over Lake Washington Varsity Kangs on Monday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when #11 Aidan Kim laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run with the help of heads-up baserunning by #15 Cavin Bowmer.
In the bottom of the first inning, #12 Lance Burt hit the team’s first season home run to center field which put the Mustangs on the board first with two runs. The Kangs tied the game up in the top of the third with two doubles. A single by Kim gave the Mustangs the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth. The Kangs singled to center field, which helped the Kangs tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.
#2 Jay Heath toed the hill first for the Mustangs. The pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking two. #7 Sean Laizans took the win for the Mustangs allowing two hits and one run, striking out two and walking one. #4 Owen Gore closed the game and tossed one inning of no-run ball for the Mustangs in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
Burt provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Mustangs with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Bowmer went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mustangs in hits. The Mustangs turned one double play in the game which was a key defensive play to hold the Kangs at bay.
The Mustangs will travel to Mercer Island for their next game on Wednesday, 4/16, @ 6pm to take on the Islanders. GO STANGS BABY!!!
