Redmond Mustangs Ravish the Juanita Ravens, 7-5

The Redmond Mustangs beat Juanita Ravens 7-5 on Monday at the Ravens’ home field.

The Ravens got on the board in the bottom of the third inning with three runs; however, the Mustangs flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on seven hits to take the lead, 6-3. With two outs against the Mustangs, singles from #3 Hiroshi Johnson, #5 Leo Ciuca and #2 Jay Heath set the table for #13 Isaiah McMahan’s singling in Johnson and Ciuca for two runs. After a Ravens pitcher change, #6 Chase Lawson stroked a double down the left field line to score both Heath and McMahan to take a 4-3 lead. The Mustangs’ continued to see the ball with #12 Lance Burt singling advancing Lawson to third base. A Ravens error advanced Burt to second base while scoring Lawson sending the Mustangs ahead, 5-3. With two consecutive walks of #9 Brandon Dayberry and #15 Cavin Bowmer, the bases were loaded again. #11 Aidan Kim put an exclamation point on the rally by hitting a single to left field scoring Burt to make the score 6-3. From there, the Mustangs scored their seventh and final run in the sixth when Lawson singled to second scoring Ciuca. The Ravens score two more runs but fell short.

Burt earned the win for the Mustangs. The reliever surrendered one hit and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking four. Heath stepped on the hill first for the Mustangs. The hurler gave up zero hits and three runs over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking five. Johnson pitched one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for the Mustangs in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit, striking out one and walking one.

Lawson drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Mustangs with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Cavin Bowmer paced Redmond Varsity Mustangs with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game.
