Welcome to Redmond High School baseball! The Mustang baseball program fields a Varsity, Junior Varsity, and C team and typically includes 40 to 50 players a season, plus coaches, trainers, family, and friends. We compete in the KingCo 4A Athletic Conference with Bothell, Eastlake, Inglemoor, Issaquah, Mount Si, Newport, North Creek, Skyline, and Woodinville high schools.
In 2025, our teams will play an 18-game schedule from March 12 through April 25. The Varsity post-season begins May 1, with the WIAA State Championships scheduled for end May at GESA Stadium in Pasco. The KingCo baseball schedule does not stop for Spring Break. It’s a regular week for games and practice.
Tryouts are from March 3-5 at the RHS baseball field and Hartman Park. Varsity, JV, and C-team rosters will be posted on this site once tryouts conclude. Read our Tips for Tryouts to help your player prepare.
Varsity, JV, C Team: What’s the difference?
For most, C team is an introduction to high school baseball. We’re focused on developing individual skills and playing experience as well as helping players juggle the demands of high school and athletics.
JV is about refining the skills and mindset that players need to succeed at the Varsity level.
The Varsity team is built to compete. Plain and simple, the primary goal is to win baseball games.
While each team has a different mission, the Mustang baseball program is “One Herd” focused on building character, teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, accountability, representing the school, and competing hard every day.
Not everyone makes a team and not everyone makes the team they expect. Players should be committed to practicing and competing all season no matter which team they’re on. Call-ups do happen, and some players divide their time between two rosters. Be ready.
Spring sports registration
Your player must be registered for Spring sports in order to be eligible to try out for baseball. The registration deadline is the Friday before tryouts begin (usually during the first week of March or last week of February). Here’s what you should know:
Get registered: Registering for Spring sports is not the same as registering for Fall or Winter sports, although registering online through FinalForms will streamline the process. If you have questions, contact Nicole Showalter at the RHS Athletics office (425-936-1867).
Medical requirements: Registration materials include forms for a medical history and a physical. The medical history is an online form and required once a year; physicals expire every two years and must be current through the last possible day of the baseball season (Memorial Day). If you need a form for a physical, you can download one here.
Fees: LWSD charges a $200 participation fee to play baseball, although you won’t be charged until your student is on a roster (baseball is a “cut” sport). You can pay online via Parent Access or at the RHS bookkeeper’s window.
Is my player is cleared? Log in to FinalForms and confirm the status of your registration. You’ll also get an email once your forms are complete and signed, along with a reminder to make sure you have proof of a valid physical on file and have paid any outstanding fines or fees.
Practices, games, and a note about Spring Break
All players are expected to be present and available for all scheduled team events from the first day of tryouts until the last out of the final game. That means being on time, mentally alert, and physically ready each day.
Practices
The Varsity, JV, and C teams practice every day after school. The Varsity team may have additional practices and other activities on the weekend. Practices continue until the final game we play, including the post-season.
Games & Post-Season
Varsity and JV play their home games at Les Dow Field at Hartman Park while the C team plays at the Redmond High School baseball field. Addresses and directions are here.
With a 10-team league, the KingCo 4A schedule is packed. Expect a 20-game regular season and a pre-season jamboree. Varsity and JV games are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; C-team games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays with some exceptions.
The Varsity playoffs and state tournament can go as late as Memorial Day weekend, and it’s not unusual to have JV players on the post-season Varsity roster. More baseball is good! Keep your schedules clear until the season is officially over.
Uniforms & Gear
We issue uniforms—jersey, pants, socks, belt, hat, and helmet—after the first day of practice. We expect players to provide their own bats, gloves, catchers gear, and other personal items. Make sure you have plastic-molded cleats—there are no metal spikes allowed on the turf fields. If you need help with gear, talk to the coaches, a returning player, or one of the Booster Club board members.
Transportation
We provide bus transportation to and from school for most away JV and C-team games, and we expect players to ride with their team. Because Varsity plays most of its games in the evening, transportation is not always provided and players may drive to closer locations.
Games and other activities, whenever possible, are scheduled such that students need not be released from their regular academic school day. Early release may occur in the case of tournament play and 4 p.m. away games that require a longer commute.
Spring Break
The KingCo baseball schedule does not stop for Spring Break. We play games and have practices all week. Please plan to spend the holiday cheering on your player and do not schedule travel or vacation during this time.
Rain
We practice and play most of our games on all-weather turf fields, so we’re rarely rained out. Here’s what you should know about inclement weather and Mustang baseball:
Expect to play: Don’t assume that a practice or game will be cancelled because of inclement weather, or because a rainout line says the field is unplayable. Expect to play or to have some type of team activity unless the coaches say otherwise.
Games will be rescheduled: Games that are postponed will be rescheduled on the first open date that both schools can play. Saturdays will be used as a makeup day whenever possible if the umpires and field are available.
Academic requirements
One of the most important lessons players learn is how to balance the demands of schoolwork and sports.
LWSD has specific academic eligibility criteria for athletes, and there will be periodic grade checks during the season. There are serious consequences for teams that use players who are academically ineligible. If you have questions or your player needs academic help, talk to the RHS Athletics Office.
Code of Conduct
LWSD eligibility criteria are minimum standards. The coaches have their own expectations and Code of Conduct for RHS baseball players. This Code is clearly communicated during tryouts and reinforced throughout the season.
If you’re new to Mustang baseball
If you’re new to Mustang baseball or an incoming Freshman, introduce yourself to the coaches or send us an email. We need to know how to reach you with details about winter workouts, registration information, tryout schedules, and other off-season baseball activities.
Club baseball and other activities
High school baseball should be the No. 1 extra-curricular priority from the end of February through the end of May. Adding other sports, clubs, and activities to an already-busy school schedule makes everything harder to manage.
If your player plays select baseball: Local 15U to 18U teams wrap up their winter training before high school tryouts begin and stay on hiatus until the high school season is over. There should be no select team activities during the high school season. We’d hate to hear about an injury that occurred at a select-team practice. Please enjoy the high school season and connect with your summer-ball team when the high school season ends in May.
Off-season training: During the winter months (December through February), the Booster Club sponsors a supervised off-season training program that includes weight room workouts and open gyms (depending on interest). It’s a great opportunity for kids to get to know other players in the program, stay active, and get ready for the upcoming season.
We can use your help
There is no shortage of ways to support Redmond baseball.
We encourage all parents, family, and friends to join the Booster Club, make a one-time donation, buy a banner ad for the Hartman Park outfield, support our sponsors, volunteer their time, or come to games and cheer on the Mustangs.
Booster Club dues help pay for costs not covered by the LWSD sports participation fee, including uniforms, equipment, field improvements, winter training programs, stipends for assistant coaches, and travel. You can pay by PayPal, and scholarships are available on request. Learn more about the Booster Club here.
If you have questions, ask a coach, Booster Club rep, or the family of a returning player. We’re all One Herd.
